About the Reading Passage Generator
Finding a reading passage that's both age-appropriate and actually about the topic you're teaching is harder than it sounds — most existing passages don't line up with your specific lesson. This tool writes an original passage at your target reading level, paired with comprehension questions and an answer key.
Who it's for: ELA and content-area teachers building close-reading or comprehension practice, and reading interventionists needing leveled text.
Tip: If you know a target Lexile level or just want it 'simplified for ELL,' put that in Target Reading Level — otherwise the AI will default to what's typical for the grade you select.
How to use it
- Fill in the required details: Topic, Subject Area, Grade Level, Passage Length, Number of Comprehension Questions and Question Type. The more specific you are, the more usable the result — a narrow topic beats a broad subject.
- Add the optional details if you have them (target reading level). You can leave these blank and the tool will make sensible choices for you.
- Click Generate and wait a few seconds for the result to appear below the form.
- Read it through and correct anything that doesn't fit your class, your assignment, or the facts.

What happens to the text I enter?
